You'll see my practice shots. I started here with "Chef" Mr. Porter in his kitchen. He's a great cook. He and his wife, Yolanda, owned a restaurant in Mexico and my tongue knows!!!

Mr. Porter's peppers stuffed with tuna, spinach, cream cheese, mushrooms and olives ready for the oven. Yum!!!!

Still-life in yellow by Donna Maxey. I can't believe that I'm actually in the 21st Century: taking pictures and blogging!!

Donna's introductory blog

Hi folks! My name is Donna Maxey and I'm going to Washington, D.C. to witness the inauguration of President-elect Barack H. Obama! "I'm sooo excited; and I just can't hide it!" I'm learning how to use my new digital camera and video from my co-worker and computer-nut, Josh Porter. We'll be taping several trial-runs before I leave on Thursday, January 15th for D.C.

My plan is to visit sites in D.C. that my mathematics students have researched and would like to see broadcast back from our capitol. Hopefully, there will not be so many people in D.C. that I can't get to those places and give a birds-eye view of our nations history. My students also helped me by writing essays answering the question "What does this inauguration mean to me?" This was the question asked by the Democratic Committee's Contest that will ten winners of the Democratic Committee's Contest to win tickets for me and my traveling friend and soror, Mrs. Faye Penny.

For right now, I'm doing a "Where's Waldo" impersonation. For all the adults, that means that I'm wearing a red head and going to be a dot in the crowd among the millions of others who are coming. However, I have a ticket to attend "The People's Inaugural Ball". I'm waiting to hear that I'm one of the winners and then you'll REALLY get to see the Inauguration from a first-person perspective.

You'll find words that are italicized and underlined. Those are words that you might want to look up to help increase your vocabulary. I thought about giving you the definitions, but I think you'll develop greater skills looking them up yourselves.

Well, I'm off to practice my camera and video skills! Wish me luck!! Actually, I believe that luck is being prepared when an opportunity presents itself. So, it's practice, PRACTICE, PRACTICE for me!
